Explanation of name: Generic name honors Linnean student Carl Peter Thunberg, 1743-1822; alata means winged.

Natural range: Africa

Recognition: Fast-growing, rampant twining vine with thin stem and opposite cordate-hastate leaves, the broadly funnel-shaped flowers yellow, usually with a black eye.

Landscape uses:  Fences, pergolas, arbors, and trellises (will take over), containers, hanging baskets.  Escaped from cultivation (WU2).
