Explanation of name: Generic name after Henry J. Mandeville (1773-1861), a Minister in Argentina (DEH). Splendens is self-explanatory.

Synonym: Dipladenia splendens A.DC.

Natural range: South America

Recognition: Robust vine with milky sap, opposite, wrinkled, leaves, and large, funnel-shaped flowers, these usually pink or white. Differs from true Allamanda by having the stamens and stigma fused into a single mass.
