Explanation of
name: Generic name means neck and seed. Asiaticum is
self-explanatory.
Name sometimes
misapplied to this species: Trachelospermum jasminoides ‘Nana’.
Natural range:
Korea, Japan
Recognition
(DEH): Groundcover vine, not climbing much, with milky sap, opposite ovate to
elliptic leaves, and yellow-white, salverform flowers ¾” long, monoecious.
Similar to Trachelospermum jasminoides but less likey to climb, with much
smaller leaves (1” vs. larger) having acute (vs. acuminate) apices, yellowish
(vs. white) flowers. Cultivars include: ‘Minima’ (‘Microphylla’), ‘Nortex’ (lanceolate
leaf), ‘Mini Mound’, ‘Tricolor’, and ‘Variegata’.
