Explanation of name: Derivation of the generic name unknown (BA1). The specific epithet refers to the edible fruit.

Natural range: Mesoamerica (BA1)

Recognition: A large climbing (by roots) or sprawling vining Aroid with perforated leaves resembling swiss cheese (or the leaves pinnately lobed).

Landscape uses: A massive root-bearing climber used for a lush, tropical look. Often grown in containers, including indoors. The fruit is usually edible when fully ripe (see MO3). The ripe fruit has caused toxic reactions in some persons (MO3). Escaped cultivation in Palm Beach County (WU1).
