Explanation of
name: The generic name refers to the fused ovaries. Podophyllum means
foot-leaf.
Natural range:
Mesoamerica (BR1)
Recognition:
A rampant, rooty, climbing aroid vine with highly variable leaf blades, these
usually arrowhead-shaped (sagittate) to palmately lobed. With many cultivars,
some variegated, including ‘White Butterfly’.
Landscape uses:
A large, rampant vine capable of climbing trees, or of cascading from hanging
baskets. Notable for varied leaf forms and leaf colors, the colors often
disappearing with age. Shade-tolerant. Very adaptable and escaped from
cultivation as a Category I Invasive Exotic. Not recommened for use outdoors in
Florida.
