Osmoxylon lineare
(Merr.) Philipson
oz-MOX-ee-lon lynn-ee-AIRE-ee
Araliaceae
Explanation of name:
The generic name comes from Greek for scented wood. Lineare means linear.
Natural range:
Asia, Philippines
Recognition:
Subshrub with deeply palmately lobed leaves dissected into long fingerlike
segments and forming a nest for the eye-catching black and white flower clusters.
Landscape uses:
Looks at a glance like a large sedge, in a partially shaded spot. The leaves
are dramatically lobed, and the flower clusters are black and white. Tolerates sun or shade, and is forgiving of dry times.
