Explanation of name:  The generic name refers to the similarity to the genus Kentia.  The specific epithet is a geographic reference.

Natural range: Ryukyu Islands (Japan)

Recognition:  Arching, twisted pinnate stiff leaves often with purplish coloration in the crownshaft.

Landscape uses:  Stately mid-sized and slow-growing solitary trunk palm.   A minor fad.
