Explanation of name: Generic name for Aesculapius, ancient Greek physician. Incarnata means flesh-colored.

Natural range: Across much of North America, including Florida (WU1). Swamps and wet hammocks

Recognition: Differing from A. perennis Walter by having the leaf base truncate to short tapering (vs. long tapering) and the flowers purplish (vs. white or pale pink) (WU1)

Landscape uses: Summer-flowering, stout perennial for wet sunny sites
