Explanation
of name:
Generic name means sun-flower. Debilis means feeble or humble.
Natural
range:
Scattered in eastern half of the U.S. including the E. Coast of Florida
Recognition:
Small, ground-covering sunflower rising to 18” tall, having yellow flowering
heads with a black eye. Leaves and stems pubescent. Leaves
scratchy, vaguely deltoid, alternate. Ray flowers yellow, disk black or dark
brown*. Rooting along the
decumbent stems where they touch the ground
Landscape
uses:
Tough, native, salt-tolerant groundcover with bright flowers
Easily confused species:
Species of Coreopsis have opposite leaves.*
Other:
Blooms several times throughout the year.
Propagates through seed.*
