Bixa Family

A pantropical family of about 4 genera and 18 species represented mostly in the American Tropics.  Most species are woody with colorful sap, alternate stipulate leaves having palmate veins, round flowers with 5 sepals and 5 petals, numerous stamens, and capsular fruits (SMI).
