Guzman, 18th Century Spanish pharmacist and naturalist

Recognition:
Leaves long, narrow, glossy
green and forming a deep cup. Inflorescence rising form the center leaves.
Flowers white nestled in the orange to red bracts. Flowers can last 6-12 weeks.
Landscape uses:
Easily
cultivated with very showy inflorescences.
Let the porous well drained medium dry between waterings and keep the
vase moist. Light requirements vary.
Some thrive in bright sunny exposures, others in limited shade.
Some cultivars can withstand full sun and can be used as a bedding plant
or groundcover. Many perform well
indoors.
