Explanation of name: Genus named for Edouard August von Regel, Director of St. Petersburg Botanic Gardens in Russia (1815-1892)  http://bsi.org/brom_info/genera.html

Recognition:  Mostly epiphytes with comparatively flat rosettes, usually reddish at the center. Flowers remain nested among the leaves.  Bright leaf coloration usually limited to the lower portions of the leaves.

Landscape uses: Let the porous, well drained medium dry between waterings but keep the vase moist.  Tolerates partial shade if given some bright sunny exposure.
