A woody
family of some 10 genera and 400 species with alternate, simple leaves, 5 petals
arranged unequally, variable numbers of stamens inserted on the corolla, and a
pistil of just one carpel, bearing two ovules (LON). Two species are common in
South Florida, Cocoplum and Gopher Apple (Licania michauxii Prance).
