Blue Daze

Evolvulus glomeratus Nees & Mart. subsp. grandiflorus (Parodi) Ooststr.

‘Blue Daze’

ee-VOLV-you-lus glom-er-AY-tus

Convolvulaceae

Explanation of name: Evolvulus is a corruption of Convolvulus and means unroll, as a reflection of this plant’s tendency not to climb by twisting like most other Colvolvulaceae. Glomeratus means clumping.

Natural range: South America

Recognition: Low mounding shrub or ground cover with sky blue, flaring, trumpet shaped flowers about an inch across. Leaves elliptic, about an inch long, pubescent.

Landscape uses: A clump-former and flowering ground cover for sunny, well drained areas. Useful in hanging baskets. The flowers are open morning to afternoon one day only. This species has escaped cultivation in the Keys (WU2).
