means lucid, bright (BA1).

Virgina to Florida and Louisiana (NE4). Bogs, edges of swamps, cypress ponds
(NE4), and depressions in pine woods (PBCC)
Recognition
(NE4): Shrub with shining green oval to elliptic leaves having thickened
margins. Flowers aromatic, bell-shaped, pink (to nearly white), ca. ½” long, in
numerous showy fascicles along stem in spring
