Escallonia Family

A family of dubious taxonomic status (ZOM) consisting of 200 woody species in 15 genera mostly of the Soutehrn Hemisphere, often placed in the Saxifragaceae.  That Itea is closely related to other Escalloniaceae is questionable (see ZOM).  Some botanists isolate the genus in its own family, the Iteaceae.
