Explanation of name: Generic name Greek, for lion’s ear. Leonurus is Greek for lion’s tail (BA1).

Natural range: South Africa

Recognition: Large, coarse mint with tetragonal stems and opposite lanceolate leaves with the margins entire to crenate. Flowers in large whorls, the corolla orange, the lip fringed.

‘Harrismith White’ is a cultivar with white flowers.

Leonurus nepetifolia (L.) R. Br. is an annual herb escaped from cultivation in the Southeastern U.S.
