of name:
Generic name from Greek, plectron, spur, and anthos, flower
Origin:
A hybrid developed in the 1990s by Roger Jaques, horticulturist at Kirstenbosch
Botanical Garden, South Africa
Recognition:
Robust clump-forming mint with leaves glossy above and purplish beneath.
Bountiful purple-violet flowers rising showily above foliage on numerous spikes.
Landscape
uses:
Although perennial, apparently in South Florida attractive for a period of
several months but not permanent. Fast-growing, thick and full, and very showy.
Tolerant of varied light conditions, probably best in partial shade.
