of name:
For Salvia, see Salvia coccinea. Serotina means resinous.
Natural
range:
Central and southern Florida, tropical America (WU1, LON). Moist hammocks,
disturbed sites, roadsides (LON, WU1)
Recognition:
Flowers showy bright blue with white, in panicles. Reminiscent of Lobelia.
Leaves rugose (rough and wrinkled). Differentiated from similar species by
having the calyx lobes acute and the leaf blades not decurrent (that is, not
extending as ridges on the leaf stalk) (WU1).
