Explanation of name: Generic name from ancient Greek name (BA1). Specific epithet probably honors French naturalist Pierre Marie Auguste Broussonet (1761-1807).

Natural range: Morocco, Mediterranean

Recognition: Small, fragrant, perennial mints with erect, pubescent stems; leaves glabrous, short-petiolate, ovate to elliptic. Corolla ¾” long, red-green

Landscape uses: Fragrant herb used for sachets, pot-pourri. Oil from this plant, thymol, is used for toiletries.
