Explanation of name: Generic name from Greek thrix, hair, and stema, stamen. Dichotomous means forked.

Synonym: T. suffrutescens Kearney (WU1)

Natural range: Southern U.S., including Florida (LON). Sand hills, flatwoods, scrub, and open hammocks on dry soil (LON, WU1, PBCC)

Recognition: Showy, robust mint in dry habitats with flowers blue and white, and with conspicuously long, curled, threadlike stamens

Landscape uses: Native, naturalized landscaping, presumably on dryish sand
