Explanation of name: Andreas Cesalpini (1519-1603) was an Italian botanist, philosopher, and physician to Pope Clement VIII.(DEH).  Granadillo probably refers to Bishop Francisco Granadillo (1878-1927) who was a bishop of Valencia in Venezuela.

Natural range: Tropics of South America (HOR)

Recognition: Tree with peeling bark. Leaves bipinnate with 5  pinnae and 4-8 pairs of obovate leaflets, to 2" long.  Flowers yellow, showy. Fruit a legume (HOR, UFEDU/ST106)
