Explanation of name: Cassia is an ancient Greek name (DEH).  Grandis means large (STE).

Natural range: Tropical America (ISE)

Recognition: Large tree. Leaves pinnate with 8-20 pairs of elliptic-oblong  leaflets, 1-1/4" to 2-1/4" long. Flowers pink to reddish, becomming peach or salom colored, about 2" in diameter, in simple 7" racemes. Fruit cylindrical legume, 16"-32" long (ISE, BA2)

Landscape uses: Flowering tree, specimen tree, street tree (DEH, HOR, UFST127)

One of the first Cassia’ to bloom in spring and will explode in blooms after first spring rains (BARW)
