Explanation of name: Cassia is an ancient Greek name (DEH). Leptophylla means thin leaved (STE).

Natural range: S.E. Brazil (HOR, BA2)

Recognition: Medium tree.  Leaves pinnate with 9-14 pairs of elliptic leaflets, 2"-4" long.  Flowers yellow, in groups of 30-50 in terminal racemes.  Fruit linear-cylindrical legume, 12"-24"long (BA2, HOR)
