Explanation of name: From Greek, erythros, red, referring to the color of the flowers. (DEH) Variegata means variegated and orientalis means of the Orient.

Natural range: India to Indonesia and the Philippines (BR1, HOR, ISE)

Recognition: Small to medium tree (to 60'). Leaves trifoliate, oblate-ovate, 2"-4", variegated.  Flower red, large, showy, 2" to 2-1/2" long. Fruit brown legume, 6" long ( HOR, ISE, BA2, UFST238)
