Explanation of name: Greek,  lysis means opening and loma means margin, referring to the fruit. Lati means wide and siliqua refers to the hardness and shape of the pod (STE, PBCC).

Natural range: West Indies and subtropical FL (BA2, ISE)

Recognition: Small to medium tree. Leaves bipinnate with 1 to 4 pairs of pinnae and 10 to 30 pairs of oblong leaflets. Flowers small, white fuzzy globes.  Fruit red brown, oblong, flat legume, 4"- 6" long (ISE, BA2, HOR, WU1)

Landscape uses: Specimen tree, shade tree, street tree (HOR, CHR)
