Synonym: Parkinsonia spinosa Kunth   (WU2)

Explanation of name: Named for J. Parkinson, an English apothecary and author. Aquleata means prickly (DEH)

Natural range: Tropical America (DEH); Mexico and southwest U.S. (ISE)

Recognition: Small tree with yellowish green bark.  Leaves even pinnate, 8"-16" long, with 40- 60 small leaflets.  Flowers yellow, 5 petal, 4"-6" long. Fruit slender leatherly legume  (ISE, BA2,HOR,DEH)

Landscape uses: Specimen tree, tree providing light shade, rock garden (HOR, DEH, BR1)
