Shrub,
glabrate. Leaves imparipinnate; petioles ½"-1" long; leaflets entire,
estipellate, 5-9, initally strigulose, ultimately glabrate; stipules caducous.
Inflorenscence(s) intercalary panicles, with numerous flowers that appear before
leaves; bracts and bracteoles small and caducous. Calyx with 4 short lobes;
corolla papilionaceous, standard pubescent on back; androecium monadelphous;
style glabrous. Legume exserted-stipitate, indehiscent, conspicuously 4-winged,
subappressed-villosulous, ultimately breaking into irregular, several-seeded
segments, marginally undulate, papery. Seeds several to numerous. Tropical
America to S. Florida.
