Explanation
of name:
Pithecellobium means “monkey earring,” referring to the contorted pods of
some species. Keyense means of the Florida Keys (HAM).

Florida Keys and the east coast of Miami-Dade County (ISE)
Recognition:
Spreading shrub or small tree. Leaves 4-foliate with ovate leaflets, 1"-2"
long. Flowers whitish yellow, mimosoid, less than 1" wide. Fruit narrow legume,
4"-6" long (ISE, HAM, IRC)
