Agave geminiflora

Twin-Flowered Agave

Agave geminiflora Lindl.

ah-GAHV-ee  gem-ah-nah-FLOR-ah

Liliaceae

Explanation of name: Generic name comes from Greek for noble. Geminiflora means twin-flowered in reference to the paired flowers.

Natural range: Mexico, high elevations

Recognition: A very narrow-leaved species, the flowers in pairs

Landscape uses: A medium-small agave with particularly narrow leaves having a grassy appearance. The entire plant can look like a clump of grass on steroids. Use as a specimen or mass in sunny, dryish location. Attractive in containers. According to nursery promotional materials, the plant tolerates shade, although its leaves will be less erect than sun-grown specimens. This species is tissue-cultured.
