Explanation of name: Gloriosa means glorious (WWW)

Natural Range:  Tropical South Africa, Asia (WWW, HOR)

Recognition: Tuberous perennial herb. Trailing weak stems with alternate opposite or whorled, ovate to oblong, glossy leaves having tapered tips ending in a 3-5 cm tendril. Best used on trellis for support. Blooms range 4-5” across. Petals are crimson red with wavy bright yellow edges. In bud the petals face downward, when fully open they arch backward; the stamens are bright green and prominent, and spread outward (HOR).‘Rothschildiana’-red  ‘Gloriosa Lutea’-yellow

Landscape uses: Plants can climb to 8 feet. Used on trellis or fences. Cut flowers last

up to 8 days in floral arrangements. Toxic. This species is an invasive exotic in some tropical areas.
