Explanation of name:   Ficus is an ancient name for figs.  Aspera means rough or scratchy.

Natural range:  Pacific Islands

Recognition:   Tree with rough leaves, best known in its variegated form.  The figs are brownish and fuzzy, the size of golf balls.

Landscape uses:   Tree with showy variegated leaves.  Often used indoors but suitable outdoors in S. Florida.
