Explanation of name: Ficus is an ancient Latin name for figs. Elastica refers to the white latex.

Natural range: Asia, Tropical Asia (BA1)

Recognition: Tree with large, stiff, flat, thick, mostly elliptic, entire-margined glabrous (hairless) leaves 6”-12” long (BA1), thick branchlets, a large conical bud, and abundant milky sap

Landscape uses: A much-grown fig, often a potted plant but potentially maturing into a large tree. A popular indoor plant.
