Golden Penda

Xanthostemon chrysanthus (F. Muell.) Benth.

Explanation of name: Xanthosoma means yellow thread (stamens), and chrysanthus means golden flower.

Natural range: Queensland, Australia

Recognition: Leaves opposite fragrant (crushed).  Flowers in rounded, showy clusters, noteworthy for their golden coloration and protruding clusters of yellowish stamens. Can be maintained as a shrub with pruning. Not common in South Florida, and not significant in the local nursery trade, but may begin showing up more as a result of promotional efforts in Australia.
