Explanation
of name:
Xanthosoma means yellow thread (stamens), and chrysanthus means
golden flower.
Natural
range:
Queensland, Australia
Recognition:
Leaves opposite fragrant (crushed). Flowers in rounded, showy clusters,
noteworthy for their golden coloration and protruding clusters of yellowish
stamens. Can be maintained as a shrub with pruning. Not common in South Florida,
and not significant in the local nursery trade, but may begin showing up more as
a result of promotional efforts in Australia.
