An herbaceous to woody family of about 10 genera and 350 species found
worldwide. Flowers radially symmetrical, the sepals fused into a tube. Petals 5,
usually forming a tube; stamens opposite the petals. Styles 5. (LON)
Plumbaginaceae are important in South Florida landscaping for the Leadworts,
species of Plumbago, one native and one introduced. Also infrequently
cultivated is Sea Lavender, Limonium carolinianum (Walt.) Britt.
