Protea Family

A family of 80 genera and
1700 species in the old world, mostly Australia and Africa, and a little in
Asia. In cultivation largely due to showy colorful, novel inflorescences which
might be spikes, racemes, panicles or congested heads. The best-known
Proteaceae in the U.S. are cut flowers from the genus Protea, mainly Protea
cynaroides (L.) L. Banksia, and the Macadamia nut.
