Explanation
of name:
Brugmansia is named after Sebald Justin Brugmans (1763-1819).
Natural
range:
South America. The wild origins of these hallucinogenic plants are unknown. They
have been cultivated from ancient times in South America for ritual uses.
Recognition:
Weak-stemmed, fast-growing, pubescent shrubs having foot-long dangling, pastel
or white, trumpet-shaped blossoms
Landscape
uses:
Fast-growing, short-lived, dramatic-flowering shrubs, best in the evening.
Plagued by nematodes, and hallucinogenic-toxic.
