Explanation of name:  Named for Francois Joseph Donat Surian, 17th century French physician botanist (DAV).  Maritima means maritime.

Natural range: West Indies, South America, Florida native

Recognition:  Maritime shrub with narrow, linear to very narrowly oblanceolate, succulent, fuzzy, sessile leaves.  Flowers round, small, yellow

Landscape uses: Shrub for seaside conditions: dry, sandy, exposed, sunny, windy, salty. Flowers are not showy.
