Nettle Family

A worldwide family of about 40 genera and 500 species of herbs, shrubs, and trees, perhaps best known for stinging nettles. Leaves simple, alternate or opposite, often serrate-margined. Flowers small and inconspicuous, unisexual or perfect. Perianth with 3-5 parts, the stamens opposite these. Ovary with 1 cell and 1 ovule. Fruit an achene. (BA1)
