Major Categories:

• Does the weed have peltate leaves? (A peltate leaf is one where the leaf-stalk (petiole) is attached at the center of the leaf blade, like the stem on a mushroom). If this is the case, your weed is probably a "Dollarweed" (species of Hydrocotyle, especially Hydrocotyle umbellata)

• Is the weed a grass, sedge, or grasslike? Go to "Category A - Common Grass & Sedge Weeds"

• Is the weed a climbing vine? Go to "Category B - Climbing Vine Weeds"

• Does the weed have a strong odor when crushed? Go to "Category C - Weeds with Strong Odors When Crushed"

• Does the weed have especially fuzzy leaves and stems? Go to "Category D - Extremely Fuzzy Weeds"

• Does the weed have opposite (paired) simple (not compound) leaves? Go to "Category E - Weeds with Opposite Leaves"

• Does the weed have leaves with 3 leaflets? Go to "Category F - Weeds With Palmately Lobed or Trifoliate Leaves (Having Three Leaflets)"

• Does the weed have compound leaves with more than 3 leaflets? Go to "Category G - Weeds with Pinnately Compound (or Deeply Pinnately Lobed) Leaves"

• Does the weed have alternate (not opposite) simple (not compound leaves with toothed edges? Go to "Category H - Weeds Having Simple, Alternate (or Rosette), Toothed Leaves"

• Does the weed have alternate simple leaves with smooth edges? Go to "Category I - Weeds Having Alternate Simple Leaves With Smooth (Entire) Leaf Margins"

• Does the weed live entirely or mostly in water, such as a canal or pond? Go to "Category J - Aquatic Weeds"

• Does the weed have milky sap? Go to "Category K - Weeds With Milky Sap"
