Generic name from Greek hedys, sweet, and chion, snow.
Coronarium means relating to a crown.
Natural
range:
India, escaped from cultivation a little in Florida
Recognition:
Ginger with snow-white, extremely fragrant flowers.
Hedychium
gardnerianum,
Kahili Ginger, has orangish flowers.
Cultivation:
According to HUX and BAC (and PBCC), prefers high humidity, rich soil, and wet
conditions (natural habitat is naturally a shore plant). Reduce water during
winter dormancy or semi-dormancy. HUX and BAC recommend liquid feed. Cut out
spent canes.
